SOHU Medicine: Establishing Processes to Better Serve as the Transfer Station and the Terminal Station of Aviation Medical Rescue
Source: Posted Date:01-27-2018

Aviation medical rescue, also known as "Air 120", is a kind of rescuing method that connects rescuing helicopters to hospitals with transport green channel to form a "seamless rescue chain", aiming at getting rid of the influence of traffic, geography as well as other factors, and shortening the rescue and transport time. As an important branch and link of modern rescue system, aviation medical rescue can transfer the wounded to hospitals with higher treatment ability by virtue of its advantages of quickness, high-efficiency, flexibility, multiple use and little geographical limitation. According to the experience of developed countries, adopting the aviation medical rescue method can increase the survival rate of about 25% of the sick and the wounded.

Four to five decades ago, many developed countries and regions successively established the  three-dimensional health emergency system. And they have realized the normalization of aviation medical rescue by now. So how is the development of aviation medical rescue in China? Wang Chen, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and CJFH President said: “Aviation medical rescue is a relatively new thing in China due to different developing reasons and management system of our society.” at the opening ceremony of the "Aviation Medical Rescue Seminar" jointly organized by CJFH and Beijing 999.

Actually, CJFH has started to receive helicopter-transported patients as early as November 24, 2016. It also completed treatments for many cases of helicopter-transported patients, laying a sound foundation for developing formal aviation medical rescue in our country.

According to the introduction of Jun Jun, the Deputy Director of CJFH Surgical Department of Critical Care Medicine, CJFH specially established two within-hospital processes, “within-hospital response process” and “within-hospital treatment process” in order to better create an aviation medical rescue "green channel".

Within-hospital response process is also called aviation rescue response system. The process was planned and arranged by the Medical Affairs Department at daytime and it was taken charge of by the General on Duty at night, ensuring the rapid response to aviation medical rescue demand of CJFH to a large extent. After receiving external rescue needs, CJFH Medical Affairs Department or the General on Duty would quickly send the patient’s information to relevant departments and prepare emergency plans based on the medical history. Within-hospital treatment process is the cooperating process within CJFH. When the helicopter transports the patient to the apron, the doctor will carry out a secondary injury examination for the patient to determine whether the actual situation conforms to the information received before and grade the patient's injury. Patients with particularly serious injuries would be immediately transferred to the ICU or receive direct operation; patients with critical diseases will be directly sent to the Emergency Department, ICU or the corresponding specialist clinics; and patients with less serious injuries will be admitted to the general ward or be remained in hospital Emergency Department under observation. This process ensures the rational distribution of medical resources.

Ying Jiaoqian, Executive Deputy Director of CJFH Medical Affairs Department expresses that in the future, CJFH would make more efforts to integrate and distribute medical resources, further improve the efficiency of aviation medical rescue and become the benchmarking “transfer station” of aviation medical rescue and the “terminal station” for the treatment of patients.
