Beijing University of Chemical Technology—CJFH Biomedical Transformation Engineering Research Center Is Established

On December 11, 2017, the signing ceremony of Beijing University of Chemical Technology—China-Japan Friendship Hospital(CJFH) Biomedical Transformation Engineering Research Center(hereinafter referred to as “Transformation Center”) was held at the academic report hall of Beijing University of Chemical Technology Yifu Conference Center. And the first academic exchange conference was also held simultaneously. Academician Tan Tianwei, President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Academician Wang Chen, CJFH President attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Vice President Wang Feng of Beijing University of Chemical Technology and CJFH Vice President Yao Shukun signed Beijing University of Chemical TechnologyCJFH Biomedical Transformation Engineering Research Center Joint Cooperation Agreement on behalf of both parties, representing the official start of the “Transformation Center” established coordinately by both parties. The signing ceremony was presided over by Professor Yang Xiaoping, Executive Vice-President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology Science and Technology Development Research Institute.

Academician Tan Tianwei, President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology first introduced their achievements in science research fields in recent years. President Tan talked about that the 21st century was a century of biological science among which multi-disciplinary intersection and integration were very important. CJFH enjoys obvious advantages in clinical research fields while Beijing University of Chemical Technology has great strength in fields like chemical engineering, materials, biomedical engineering and so on. It is believed that fruitful results must be achieved when the two units actively invested in quality resources, developed application-oriented scientific research cooperation and utilized the scientific research achievement in medical development.

Academician Wang Chen, CJFH President said that translational medicine was a thinking method connecting preclinical medicine research and clinical treatment, and speeded up the industrialization progress of transforming scientific research to biomedical engineering application. Translational medicine is closely connected with biology, preclinical medicine, clinical pharmacy and other fields. The integration of multiple subjects is bound to jointly play a majestic symphony. CJFH takes care of life and health with scientific and humanitarian spirit, establishes classic college-type hospital, holds the hospital motto of “Foster Correct Values and Follow the Right Path to Work Hard” and strives to make CJFH an advanced ideological source and a strong driving force for China's medical career. CJFH and Beijing University of Chemical Technology enjoy natural cooperating advantages in disciplinary construction, geographical location and other aspects. In the future, Beijing University of Chemical Technology can serve as an experimental research base for CJFH and CJFH can become the transformation site for basic research of Beijing University of Chemical Technology. President Wang said that scientific research and the application of its achievements with human health as the starting point have a vast market and a bright future in the country. With the combination of medicine and chemical technology and mutually complementary advantages, the two units enjoy boundless potentials and achievements are surely to be made. The cooperation between the two units meets major social demands, solves key medical problems and makes contribution for improving people’s life quality and health.

At the conference, Vice President Wang Feng of Beijing University of Chemical Technology and CJFH Vice President Yao Shukun signed Beijing University of Chemical TechnologyCJFH Biomedical Transformation Engineering Research Center Joint Cooperation Agreement on behalf of both parties.

After its establishment, the Transformation Center will follow the cooperation principle of "co-construction, co-management and common development" and make full use of geographical and resource advantages as well as disciplinary complementarity of both sides. Centering on the developing needs of biomedicine health industry, the Transformation Center would serve the development of our country and society on the base of mechanism innovation and system innovation through the cooperation mode of “Medicine and chemical technology combination, mutually complementary advantages, disciplinary intersection, common cultivation and collaborative innovation.” It will also aim at personnel training and scientific research, innovate platform construction, resource sharing and industrial transformation, set a comprehensive layout in life science, and build biological samples and health—environment database platform, systemic medicine and translational medicine platform, major diseases early diagnosis platform and others. Both parties will provide support for the construction of innovation platforms in forms of developing infrastructure, procuring equipment, establishing special cooperation projects.

Over 300 people including the researchers and postgraduate students from Beijing University of Chemical Technology Scientific Research Institute, School of Life Sciences, School of Materials as well as leaders, research backbones and postgraduate students from CJFH Scientific Research Institute and other departments attended the signing ceremony of the Transformation Center and the academic exchange conference.

At the academic exchange conference held simultaneously, Professor Xu Fujian, Professor Luo Shizhong, Professor Cai Qing and Professor Liu Huiyu of Beijing University of Chemical Technology made academic communication on biomedical material research progress of Beijing Laboratory, introduction of biomedical engineering research direction of School of Life Science and Technology, high-value dental material research and development as well as clinical application, and integration of nano-thermotherapy and clinical technology respectively. Professor Cui Yong, Professor Chen Zhihua, Professor Zhan Qingyuan and Professor Zhang Guoqiang of CJFH introduced the current scientific research status of CJFH and the natural field layout of our country, CJFH Clinical Medicine Research Institute platform, the cooperating direction and preliminary achievements on respiratory system diseases with Beijing University of Chemical Technology and initial cooperation results of ultrasound-visible medical catheter material separately.

Bilateral strategic cooperation events review

Since the end of 2016, CJFH Scientific Research Office and CJFH Clinical Medicine Research Institute have contacted with Beijing University of Chemical Technology School of Life Sciences to hold first “scientific research ‘marriage meeting’” and organized experts from two sides to conduct scientific research direction docking and cooperating communication.
 
At the beginning of 2017, Beijing University of Chemical Technology set up special research funds and established the first group of 14 projects to support joint research conducted by both parties and further deepen bilateral cooperation. Afterwards, both sides carried out a series of exchange visits and negotiations to explore how to build a multi-dimensional cooperation model based on their respective advantages as well as characteristics, and the developing needs of the biomedical health industry.

On July 26, 2017, the two sides signed a strategic cooperation agreement, laying the foundation for further comprehensive cooperation on “medicine, education, research and production”. The establishment of Beijing University of Chemical Technology—CJFH Biomedical Transformation Engineering Research Center is an important part of the bilateral strategic cooperation agreement framework.
