CJFH’s Dermatology Department Received the 2018 “Most Influential Research Award” from Chinese Society of Dermatology

On April 25-28, 2019, the 25th Annual Conference of the Chinese Medical Association on Dermatology and Venereal Diseases was held in Zhuhai. For the first time, the Chinese Society of Dermatology established a “Most Influential Research Award” and presented it at the opening ceremony of the conference, to commend the most influential scientific research achievements in the fields of dermatology and venereology in China in the previous year. Selected by the Chinese Society of Dermatology, Dr. Cui Yong and his team of dermatologists from China-Japan Friendship Hospital (CJFH) won the first “Most Influential Research Award” through their academic output“The First Genome-wide Coding Variation Study of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) in China”.
It is reported that this study was led by China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Huashan Hospital of Fudan University, Anhui Medical University, and jointly participated by Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking University People's Hospital, Renji Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The results were published in the 2018 Yearbook of Rheumatology, a top international journal on rheumatologic disorders. In the study, a custom exome chip was first used to perform a large-scale coding variants screening in 5004 SLE cases and 8179 healthy controls in a Han Chinese population. The control study identified four novel susceptibility genes or loci for SLE and three coding variants which may be directly related to disease risk.
In his acceptance speech, Professor Cui Yong pointed out that the genome-wide coding variation research based on exon chip could be used to discover coding variation directly related to disease risk, and it is expected to become a precise target or marker for direct clinical treatment in the future. Genetics research is an important foundation of precision medicine. The development of this research benefits from the long-established large cohort study of SLE, which can establish a deep link between clinical phenotype and genetic pathogenesis of SLE, help to develop new prevention and treatment programs, and promote the improvement of basic research and clinical application of this disease.
With the theme of “Leading Academics, Creating the Future Together”, this event has attracted a record number of contributions. And a total of 2,146 free contributions were received, and 6,658 registered representatives were present.
The engagement of businesses was unprecedented. The actual number of participants exceeded 10,000. It is the highest academic annual conference in dermatology in recent years.
Chen Hongduo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering,and Liao Wanqing, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, issued the 2018 “Most Influential Research Award” of Chinese Society of Dermatology.
