“Precision Medicine Training Course” Held at CJFH
Source: Posted Date:09-15-2017

The Precision Medicine Center (PMC) of China-Japan Friendship Hosipital (CJFH), established in 2014, is an independent business department in the hosipital. To promote the implementation of precision medicine in the clinical practice, the PMC, in collaboration with the Research Department, Medical Affairs Department, Pharmaceutical Department, the administration and other business departmens, held a course on “Precesion Medicine Training” on September 4, 2017.

President Wang Chen and Vice President Yao Shukun of CJFH delivered speeches before giving lectures of their own. Over 300 medical staff and researchers attended the course. The training session was presided by Cui Yong, Director of the Research Department.

President Wang Chen emphasized that currently, what Precision Medecine can be actually  applied to treatment is the  screening and use of medication based on differences in individual genomes, which can hopefully reduce or even eliminate serious adverse reactions in patients to such medication. Accurate selection of specific medicine and precise adjustment of the dosage are therefore critical in making improvement in treatment.

The training course, Wang said, aims to help trainees embark on the implementation of standardized Precision Medicine programs to be started at CJFH by sharing understanding of the  PM concept . President Wang pointed out that in 2015, CJFH established China Precision Medicine Clinical Research and Application Aliance with the hospital at the initiator and sponsor, designed to become the “Chinese version” of Precision Medicine program. In 2017, the “Precision Medision Demonstration Integrated System Construction” program of CJFH was approved as one of the key research and development programsunder the umbrella of the country’s “13th Five-year Plan”. The “Precision Medicine Demonstration” being pushed at CJFH is to trailblazea way of coordinating resources in a general hosipital. It is a real response to the need for clinical research and application, and also a good opportunity to enhance the capacity and overall construction of related disciplines at the hospital.

Part of the training was a lecture by Yao Shukun, Vice President of CJFH, on the overall planning and cores of the “CJFH model”, focusing on three questions: Why are we setting up the demonstration model? What is it? How to do it? The demonstration to be carried out at CJFH includes six elements: the building of a highly integrated Precision Medicine Center, the establishment of a reliable platform integrating detectation technologies, the designing of a reproducible and propagable Precision Medicine program, the outlining of precision medicine process reengineering based on HIS, the planning of a coordination between pharmaceutical directives and clinical decision-making processes, and the construction of a remote control system to be applied to Precision Medicine.
The early stage will involve the Precision Medicine Center, Research Department, International Department, Medical Affairs Department, Information Department, Telemedicine Consultation Center, Pharmaceutical Department, Clinical Laboratory, Human Resources Department, Medical Insurance office and other departments. The “CJFH model” has begun to shape up and will gradually be implemented in some deciplines. Especially in the designing and implementing of precision medicine programs for patients with colorectal neoplasms, psoriasis and other diseases, the model has made satisfying achivements.

Dr. Wang Heyao, adjunct professor at the CJFH Precision Medicine Center, shared the case of precision medicine treatment with the medical staff attending the training. Chen Wenqian, a pharmacist from the Pharmaceutical Department, explained several genetic test reports and taught people how to analyse a test report. Dr. Luo Jie of the Pathology Department introduced the targeted therapy based on molecular pathological testing. Xia Jiefeng, director of the Information Department briefed on how to use the HIS system of CJFH Precision Medicine model. Zhang Zhixin, director of the International Department, presented the Precision Medicine model process in his department to the experts paticipating. Ren Jingyi, director of the North Campus, introduced the Precision Medicine model process being used on the North Campus.

It is reported that the CJFH Precision Medecine Demonstration will be implemented first in the International Department and the North Campus. As the model shows, priority is given to the enforcement of Class A drugs (where genes checks are required before usage), and to recommended execution of Class B drugs (when genes tests are recommended before usage). All clinical pathways and processes are guided by the modified HIS system.

The Precision Medicine Center will integrate with precise treatments of specific indications in cooperation with specific deciplines. In the near future, the Precision Medicine Center and the Information Department will carry out several on-site trainings in the Intenational Department and the North Campus to help clinical physicians to learn about the process to be gradually implemented, according to the hospital’s master plan.
